DJing, Hip-Hop Not "Fine Art" According To Cook County
Our own Boi Jeanius makes a statement in front of Beauty Bar Chicago
Cook County, which encapsulates Chicago, is attempting to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes from multiple Chicago music venues including Beauty Bar claiming “that the establishments should not have been exempt from a county amusement tax because the shows they book do not constitute ‘live cultural performances.’”
Many Chicago area DJs have called the claims a “money grab from a cash strapped city.” Others have highlighted the city granting tax exempt status to the Lollapalooza Music Festival as the antithesis of these claims. We will have more news on this issue as it becomes available.
